Steve Wood, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, outdoors in the mountains

Therapy that feels human

Hi, I’m Steve. I’m an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW), with around 20 years’ experience supporting people through mental health challenges, relationships and life’s changes.

My approach is warm, grounded and collaborative. We’ll make space for what matters to you, understand the patterns keeping you stuck and find practical ways forward.

I work with both mind and body, helping you notice emotions, settle overwhelm and feel more connected to yourself. Nature and human connection are at the heart of my practice.

What therapy can help with

  • Anxiety & overwhelm
  • Stress & burnout
  • Trauma & difficult experiences
  • Relationships & connection
  • ADHD & neurodiversity
  • Emotional regulation
  • Grief & loss
  • Parenting & family challenges
  • Life transitions
  • Feeling stuck or disconnected

Ways I can support you

01

Individual therapy

A space to work through anxiety, stress, trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationships and life transitions. Together, we’ll build understanding and practical ways to feel more connected and steady.

02

Couples therapy

Support to understand the patterns between you, navigate conflict and rebuild connection. We’ll make room for each person’s experience and find ways to communicate with more care.

03

Therapy for young people

A safe, relatable space for adolescents and young adults navigating mental health, relationships, identity and life’s challenges. Therapy moves at a pace that feels comfortable.

04

Nature-based therapy

For people who feel more at ease through movement, nature and conversation outside a consulting room. We can explore whether outdoor sessions suit your needs and circumstances.

What therapy with me is like

You don’t need to have the right words or everything worked out. We’ll start with what’s happening for you and move at your pace. I’ll listen, help you make sense of patterns and work with you on practical steps you can use in everyday life.

Alongside conversation, we may notice what’s happening in your body and explore grounding, breath and ways to respond to difficult feelings. My work draws on evidence-based approaches, including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, compassion-focused approaches and motivational interviewing, tailored to you.
